The last few months of the Covid-19 pandemic have seen several professions suffer, and perhaps performing arts has taken the maximum hit. In such a scenario, a virtual music contest, called TaalFluence 2K20, was organised recently by an online performing arts platform, Craqit, to support and promote new musicians. It saw participation from over 360 aspiring singers from India, UK, USA and Canada. TaalFluence 2K20 was held over a period of one month and entries were invited on the Craqit website. The participants had recorded their acts and posted on the website, and the finalists and winners were chosen by an audience poll. The finale, which was held on November 21 on Zoom, features renowned singers like Usha Uthup, Chandra Chakraborty, Indrajit Dey, Supriyo Dutta and Yashika Sikka as judges.
A source says that among all the participants, five finalists from India, Manchester and London made it to the finale, which was attended virtually by over 500 music lovers. The 17-year-old singer Aratrika Bhattacharya from Kolkata emerged as the winner. “I’m so happy and excited to be the winner because it was a tough journey all the way to the finale, because of the kind of competition that TaalFluence 2K20 had. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to perform in front of Usha Uthup mam, Chandra Chakraborty mam, Indrajit Dey sir, Supriyo Dutta sir and Yashika Sikka mam. Their feedback was really valuable for me. I feel blessed that they praised my performance. The entire team of Craqit India was very supportive and helpful throughout the journey. They’ve constantly solved all our issues and cleared our doubts. They were always by our side. I’m so thankful to them,” says Aratrika Bhattacharya.
Apart from the performances by the finalists, the event also saw Usha Uthup entertain the audience with a live performance. She sang her popular numbers like Darling Aankhon Se, Auva Auva and Senorita.
The winner of the contest won a music video deal with Craqit, a one-year advanced membership of the platform and gift hampers worth Rs 35,000. Sayantan Halder, Director, Craqit India, says, “We are very excited to have a talent like Aratrika as the winner, and based on her style, we are planning either a performance-based or a concept-based music video. We are also offering free annual memberships to the top contestants and looking forward to welcoming them to the Craqit community.”
