Arnab Goswami, senior journalist and Republic TV editor got arrested from his residence on November 4 by the Maharashtra Police.
Arnab was detained for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018. The police of Alibaug had filed a case two years ago for the incident but the case was later brought to an end by Raigad Police in 2019.
In May 2020, the Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh recommended a fresh CID investigation into the case after Avnay Naik’s death,. He approached the state government and complained that the Alibaug police had not investigated the “non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s Republic”.
The Maharashtra Police has not released the official statement in connection to the case.
Clippings displayed in various news channels depicted that Arnab Goswami was taken by cops in a police van. The police entered Goswami’s residence and tried to detain him, reported news agency ANI.
ANI said that Arnab Goswami was “physically assaulted” by the police. The senior journalist reportedly claimed that his wife and son were also “assaulted” by the Mumbai cops.
